CFI is also a direct investor in small and medium size companies, outside of our activities in private equity fund management and equity private placement. Using internally generated funds and co-investments from partners we will invest equity into profitable, growth oriented companies.
We strive to have a deep understanding of the underlying businesses that we consider for principal investments. As such, our principal investments to date have been centered around the automotive sales and leasing sector where we own all or part of an auto dealership and four equipment and auto leasing companies.
We are actively evaluating principal investment opportunities in small to medium size infrastructure businesses including waste water plant bio-solids management, distributed solar, wind, and social infrastructure where our years of experience will allow us to discern value.
CFI indirectly acquired an ownership interest in an independent auto leasing company in 2011 and, operating as Auto|One, relocated it closer to the City of Vancouver. Certain administrative activities, including credit adjudication, were centralized at the Auto|One affiliate in Toronto, providing cost efficiencies while maintaining customer service and satisfaction levels.

CFI indirectly acquired an ownership interest in a new Nissan dealership in 2012. Located in the northwest section of the GTA on the site of a former GM dealership, the Nissan dealership provides CFI with an opportunity to partner with an experienced dealer principal while providing cross-marketing opportunities with respect to leasing and new and used vehicle sales and service.
